Outreach and External Events

The Havering Astronomical Society offers outreach activities to support local community clubs and organisations, such as schools, youth groups (including Guides, Brownies, Scouts, Cubs and Beavers) and other local community groups interested in finding out more about the wonders of the night sky.
What we can offer
We offer interactive talks and guides to the night sky (indoors using our laptop planetarium app) as well as live observing through our telescopes (outdoors; clear skies permitting, of course). We can tailor our talks to schools' curricula for KS2 and KS3, and cover the activities required for astronomy and space activity badges.
Our location
We are based at Thames Chase Visitor Centre, Pike Lane, Upminster where we have access to a meeting room (accommodating up to 50) and a large 17th century barn, as well as space outdoors for observations.
Note: The venue needs to be hired separately via Thames Chase, via enquiries@thameschase.org.uk
How to make an enquiry
Please contact us using our Outreach request form (or via the green button above), and we will respond as soon as possible, offering dates according to our volunteers’ availability.
You will also need to check room availability at Thames Chase.
Once availability is confirmed, you will need to book with and pay Thames Chase.
Donations welcome!
We do not charge for talks, but invite a donation to our club of between £3 and £5 per child (for youth organisations) or £5 per adult (for adult-only groups), which will help us to continue to offer our support to the local community.
